Biltmore House

Through dangers untold and hardships unnumbered, I have found my way here to the castle on the hilltop, to find what I've always known - George Vanderbilt had way too much time and money on his hands. That said, I have to admit, I really love the Breakfast Room - the red marble wainscoting and the embossed leather wallpaper just do it for me. *grins* I also found the perfect Christmas present for [livejournal.com profile] tricksterquinn - a rather lovely Chinese porcelain phoenix and dragon globe. Unfortunately, I didn't bring any tools to jimmy the lock on the display case, and it really didn't seem like a proper venue for a smash-and-grab. Sorry, Quinn!

All told, this has been a fairly nice family vacation. Spent a good portion of the evening listening to Christmas carols in the Great Hall of Biltmore House - didn't suck. Spent a good bit of yesterday watching my Southern Baptist mom at the wine tasting at the winery - also had high amusement value. I've been totally nonproductive work-wise this past couple of days, but I'm told that's more or less the idea of a vacation anyway. I'm relatively sure everything will be where I left it when I get back to work, and that's ok.

One more morning to sleep in like a lazy thing, and then we trek back towards home and work. Gonna enjoy this nonproductivity while it lasts.

What? You don't want an indoor bowling alley? *is shocked*

Good wine, however. I especially like their very heavy reds, something I don't say very often.

Awww...come on. Security at the Biltmore can't be THAT good. I'm sure you could get away with it. I mean, you've got ninja skills.
